The cost of trauma scene cleanup is influenced by a combination of safety, labor, and regulatory factors. Labor is often the largest expense, as certified technicians must spend hours carefully removing biohazards and restoring the property.

Personal protective equipment (PPE) such as respirators, suits, gloves, and eye protection is essential for worker safety and must be replaced frequently, adding to costs. Specialized cleaning agents, hospital-grade disinfectants, and equipment like ozone machines, HEPA vacuums, Air Filtration Devices and enzyme treatments are also required to ensure the scene is fully decontaminated.

Proper disposal of contaminated materials through licensed medical waste facilities adds another layer of expense, since strict state and federal guidelines must be followed to protect public health.

What goes into the cost of trauma scene cleanup?

  • Labor

  • PPE (Personal Protective Equipment)

  • Equipement (outside of PPE)

  • Disposal

Alternate Means of Reimbursement

Often, homeowners or business insurance will help to pay for the cost of these unfortunate cleanups. In most cases, the cost to dispose of any affected building materials and/or contents will be covered in standard homeowner’s policy.  They do not typically pay for the replacement of damaged contents.

Victim Assistance Bureau

In more violent crime situations, you may be eligible for partial funding through the Crime Victim Assistance Bureau. There are some criteria required for this grant, but it may be worth looking into. Find more information: Crime Victim Assistance Program
